Back with another dose of industrial couples-issues & anthemic social-purge electro-pop, it’s yer favourite Aussie/Deutsch swamp beat trio Concentration, in an all-original gutter-jazz no-cabaret odyssey!
Now with added Xanax-sax squall, Concentration are even more trash-hop than trip-hop…..like Portishead force-fed kilos of content in total POW darkness, foie gras style. (it’s what they deserve…)
I’m Not What I Was and Premature were baffling and banging, weeping, danceable coke-mirror-comedowns - but now come the squirming epic 10+minute songs with multiple sing-along choruses and movements that DEMAND the 2LP treatment.
This stepdad-prog dilation is the sonic & psychic equivalent of slicing your belly open and playing with your own innards…and being amazed at the sheer length of your own bloody organs (and the MIDI-klezmer breakdowns).
Lyrically, Aren't You Gonna Introduce Me To Your Friend = snaking rabbit holes of: the fever dreams and grim paradoxes of ethical agit-pop, e-pissing contests, the foul stench of the male sexual predator complex - a meta-meta-virtue signalling minefield containing the complete works of the early 2020 psyche choking on its own irony. Your sociology professor’s new favourite research kink.
Musically there are moments of sheer beauty (hope?) amongst the no-wave guitar skronk. Lashings of ambient smooth jazztronics before the anxious club beats. Gehäutete Bräute especially is struggling to not be a pop hit, Thrush going all Björk-like batshit before the band just start flinging sonic shit at eachother again.
Basically - it’s a tour de force daaaaaarling, and only Concentration can do it.
Message from the band:
“eyy so excited to *finally* have this out!
more stuff about being alienated and lonely, no more stuff about being jewish (you spoke, we listened!)
hope it makes you feel less alienated / lonely in the noise of it all.
if you feel fine, then no stress.
we love you!
matt, thrush, zac
xxx”
